Ad Tracking

Why use an ad tracker?

If you have something you offer people on the internet - a website, ezine, or products that you sell, or for which you're an affiliate - you'll need to promote your product.  But any form of promotion will cost you time and / or money, and you'll want the best possible return on this investment.

To find out whether your promotion is effective, and, more particularly, cost effective, you need an ad tracker.  An ad tracker will give you the statistics on which promotions are worth the effort, and which are performing the best.  Better still, the ad tracker statistics will help you to tweak your promotions for more effective results.

There's an additional bonus in using ad tracker links in your promotions, especially in ebooks - you can avoid 'linkrot'.   Its in the nature of the internet that links change, or simply disappear.  If you've used an ordinary link in your promotions, the link can be difficult or impossible to change, and your promotion is wasted.  But if you use an ad tracker link, its easy to go into the admin section of the ad tracker, and change the target link.

Which Ad Tracker?

Broadly speaking, there are two types of ad trackers - those that you install on the server of your own website, usually for a one-off fee, and those that are remotely hosted, on the providers website, usually for a monthly fee.

The remotely hosted ad trackers are much easier to set up.  If you prefer this option, I recommend The Ultimate Marketing Centre for great value - you get hosting and an autoresponder as well, in a package deal that is great value.  You can read a more detailed review of The Ultimate Marketing Center here.

On the other hand, if you are prepared to install the script, or pay someone to do it for you, you can't go past Adtrackz for value.  What I really like about Adtrackz is that it can track actions as well as clicks, so you can tell which promotions lead to a sale, plus it can cloak your affiliate links - no need to use a separate cloaking program.
